Penny Frith

Penny Frith is a landscape artist working from her home studio in Impington, Cambridge.

She completed an art foundation course at CCAT in Cambridge before graduating with a degree in Graphic Design in 1991. Based in London, Penny enjoyed a career in film animation including winning first prize at the Nimes film festival for her animated film "Surface", which was featured on the BBC's Animation Now series.

On returning to Cambridge she rediscovered her love of oil painting when she joined Tom McPherson's Cambridge Art workshop. Penny draws inspiration from her travels to the coastlines and landscapes of the UK. She strives to convey a sense of tranquility along with a luminous light filled quality through the use of colour and proportion. The vista and skies in Penny's work all start from somewhere she's been, but the abstract nature captures something emotional rather than figurative, evoking the feeling of somewhere known and loved.

Penny recently exhibited at the Royal Academy Summer Exhibition.
