Paul Evans

I am a landscape artist living in rural Suffolk, where I revel in exploring and recording - with endless drawings, studies and paintings - the beautiful woodland, farmland, and wonderful open spaces of the surrounding countryside.

The passing of the seasons is subtle, providing me with a wealth of inspiration throughout the year, with the ever-changing flora, fauna, weather and light.  There’s no better place to reconnect with one’s surroundings and to capture the untamed and ethereal beauty of the landscape.

In 2022 Paul celebrated his 50th year since starting his career at art college - a half-century of creating and making a living from his painting - which continues to be his complete joy and passion. He has his home and studio near Lavenham, tucked away in the heart of the landscape he loves so much. Suffolk has been the place the painter Paul Evans calls home for the past 25 years, and it has proved to be a constant inspiration for his work. He loves the big skies, the timber framed and flint buildings nestling organically within the gentle landscape, and the subtle changes noticed from day to day and month to month.

Although always on the lookout for new places to inspire him, Paul is fascinated by certain locations, and return to them constantly to record the changing light, weather, and seasons. He loves to experiment with materials and ways of working with paint, which gives the work a vitality and a sense of his enthusiasm, and conveys a true sense of place. His work is constantly evolving as he attempts to express a response to the landscape around him.

Paul has been working full time as a professional artist since leaving Eastbourne College of Art in 1976 where he studied illustration and printmaking under Robert Tavener.
