Kate Garwood
Kate is a studio potter based in south Oxfordshire near Henley-on-Thames. She specialises in creating handmade wheel thrown pottery with a focus on domestic ware such as jugs, mugs and bowls using stoneware clays. Each piece is unique and created using a range of brightly coloured porcelain and stoneware slips. These sit alongside a range of traditional oriental glazes like Chun and Celadon.
Kate’s contemporary designs are inspired by the Chilterns and her local environment. She incorporates carving, sgraffito and inlaid slips to produce intricate and detailed patterns. Kate celebrates the natural beauty of the clay by leaving part of her pieces raw and unglazed. Functionality and beauty are fundamental to Kate’s work and her pottery is made to be used in everyday life.
