Gregory Moore

After studying at Belfast Art College in the early 1980s, Gregory graduated with a degree in Fine Art. It was during this time that he was introduced to printmaking and after a career in graphic design and teaching he was keen to start printing again. Over thirty years later he enrolled on a refresher etching course at The Glasgow Print Studio and shortly afterwards became a member. In 2017 Gregory won the Roy Wood prize for Excellence in Printmaking at the Royal Scottish Academy exhibition in Edinburgh.

“There is nothing more exciting than travelling down a new road, sketchbook in hand, following the bend in a river or reaching the brow of a hill to see something for the first time. My inspiration comes from the landscape and its character and wildlife. Through my etchings and mezzotints I strive to capture its mood, beauty and atmosphere. I use a range of techniques, particularly spit biting and aquatint to give my etchings a painterly feel.”
