Daniel Smyth
Daniel Smyth is a potter based in Ancoats, Manchester, known for creating simple yet striking pottery inspired by global ceramic traditions, with a particular reverence for East Asian techniques and aesthetics. Rooted in a deep passion for materials and process, Daniel’s work reflects a meditative attention to balance, proportion, and form.
Daniel creates a variety of bottles, vases and bud vases. Through meticulous craftsmanship, he explores the delicate interplay between form and function, producing pieces that are both visually compelling and practically refined. His creations are quiet and minimal with a contemporary elegance.
Daniel’s commitment to the ceramic arts extends beyond his studio. He is constantly engaged in glaze research and technical learning, striving to deepen his knowledge and refine his practice. In addition to producing tableware and decorative wheel-thrown works, he shares his expertise through teaching at Community Clay Studio in Stretford and Clay College in Stoke-on-Trent."
"I was thrilled to be invited to exhibit at CCA, I have admired the galleries' curation and artists featured for many years now, so it is a privilege to show work here. For the summer show I wanted to create works that could exist harmoniously in the home. I have skimmed some of my favourite pieces from the last few months firings in different atmospheres; electric, gas and wood-firings. I have also included some new thrown-sculptural pieces that I am excited to share."
