Hazel Battersby

Hazel Battersby is a Scottish artist, based in York. Hazel’s paintings are inspired by landscape but remain essentially abstract. Inspiration often comes from visiting remote locations within the UK. The act of walking, exploring and observing the ever-changing environment is part of her journey and process. Through exploration of mark-making, drawing and collage, both abstract and descriptive properties develop, and as they extend into paintings this continues to shift and change. Hazel has exhibited her work throughout the UK. “I enjoy the initial marks that are made, the conversational layers that respond to develop a painting. Back in the studio, a process of building up the physical layers of paint and media helps to encourage depth of mark-making, colour and shifts in composition. There is a sense of discovery through painting, building up and removing layers and the emergence of an image, that somehow takes command of the painting.”

You can choose any work with a retail price between £250 and £25,000 from our great selection of prints, paintings, ceramics, sculpture, glass and wood. It is not possible to buy gift vouchers with the Own Art Scheme.

You can borrow from as little as £250 up to a maximum of £25,000 . We then spread the cost of your purchase over 10 months with an interest free loan. For instance, if you buy a painting from us that costs £300 through the own art scheme, you would pay £30 in 10 monthly installments.
