Sarah Vigliotti has always had an interest in observing the world around her; documenting the common-place and overlooked spaces that often go unnoticed. Born in London, she loves the urban landscape and has a strong interest in architecture, focusing on pattern and surface in much of her work. Moving to rural South Cambridgeshire as a child, she is equally inspired by rural locations, where structure and pattern found in the landscape create strong compositions.
Whilst studying A level Art in Cambridge, her passion for Printmaking and Photography was born, enjoying the technical nature of both and the processes involved. She studied Fine Art and Graphic Design at Camberwell College of Arts where she explored several Printmaking techniques, though ultimately she was drawn to the photographic darkroom, becoming a competent black and white printer with a love of vintage cameras.
Sarah’s interest in Printmaking never left her and she attended Printmaking evening classes before setting up her own studio at home, on the outskirts of Cambridge, where she mainly creates small, limited-edition linocuts. When working in black and white, she enjoys being spontaneous with mark making on the lino. In her colour work, which involves more planning, she enjoys building up the layers and seeing the different colour combinations emerge. Overall, the risk and uncertainty involved in linocut and the excitement of the print revealing itself are what gives her a passion for this medium.
