artist's story

Bridget Greenwood

Based in Cheshire.

Bridget was born in 1961 and grew up in Cheshire, she attended Art College 1980’s.  She then went on to have a successful career in advertising in London, only returned to painting again in 2020, due to lockdown and the emotional outlet she needed at that time. She has since had a successful solo exhibition with Galley 6 in Newark in 2021, a joint exhibition at The Lake Gallery on the Wirral in 2024 and is represented by various galleries in the UK.

“My work is all about the landscape and my emotional reaction to it.  I paint intuitively using unplanned shapes and imagery to lead the work, I allow this freedom so accidents can happy, these accidents, or unintended marks are central to the work.  It is a balance between purposeful marks & shapes to freedom and unconscious painting.”

“Colour is at the forefront of my work, for me it is the colour choices that create the emotion, the calm and peace that comes from a muted harmonious palette.

My work might be informed by landscapes that I have photographed and walked in, but there isn’t an intention to copy or base it on a real landscape. More often or not I recognise the real landscapes only once the painting is completed.”

The Own Art Loan Scheme

The Own Art Scheme is an interest-free loan scheme set up by the Arts Council that is designed to make it affordable for everyone to buy original, high quality contemporary art and craft by letting you spread the cost of your purchase over 10 months.

You can choose any work with a retail price between £250 and £25,000 from our great selection of prints, paintings, ceramics, sculpture, glass and wood. It is not possible to buy gift vouchers with the Own Art Scheme.

You can borrow from as little as £250 up to a maximum of £25,000 . We then spread the cost of your purchase over 10 months with an interest free loan. For instance, if you buy a painting from us that costs £300 through the own art scheme, you would pay £30 in 10 monthly installments.
