After graduating from Camberwell College of Art Nicola was commissioned to paint murals for an architectural firm and started doing illustrating, model making and scenery painting for advertising agencies with clients such as Ford, Glenlivet and the London Stock Exchange. At the same time she was painting from her own studio and was commissioned to make several dinner services for yacht designer Jon Bannenberg. She has been commissioned to make commemorative bowls for The Queen Mother and the Sultan of Brunei, and designs for companies such as the National Trust, Marks and Spencer and Wedgewood. Nicola has had international exhibitions of paintings and ceramics at Gumps San Francisco, Halls, Kansas City, Saks, New York, Nieman Marcus Dallas and Marshall Fields in Chicago. In London she has exhibited at Liberties Best of British and for several years exhibited at Thomas Goode in London. In 2000 she was asked by Brilliant Books to illustrate two children's books for Tescos. Since 2001 she has worked exclusively as a contemporary artist and has exhibited regularly from galleries and her home and worked on commissions. Her work is held in private collections in Britain and abroad.
Nicola lives in an old mill and her work is inspired by nature, she sketches the bird life she sees and uses them as inspiration for paintings and sculptures. The birds are made initially of wire and paper until a shape is formed and a character begins to emerge. Watercolour paper and hand made Japanese paper is then hand painted to create the birds and carefully applied in layers to make the bird come to life.
