Mia makes colourful earthenware vessels for domestic use and bone china tea lights employing varied techniques such as throwing, slab building and casting. All the pieces are decorated with gold and fired several times.
"As I originally come from sunnier climes, some of the clear skies and water reflections from my beloved Danube show in my work. The white dots and irregular dark rims on my bowls and jugs are a reference to some of my childhood memories - in this case, enamelled plates and cooking pots my mother used. I also work with bone china, an unpredictable but delightful clay - a real diva! However, when handled with care, the results are stunning. The tea lights are translucent and exude clarity and optimism. I purposefully leave them unglazed on the outside because I like the quality of the clay to speak for itself."
