cambridge contemporary art

Lucy Howard

I was born in 1973 in Somerset and have lived in the countryside ever since. I was encouraged to draw and paint from an early age and taken on regular trips to the large galleries in London.

I am entirely self taught and in recent years have been able to dedicate more time to painting as my children have grown older.

In 2013 my friend persuaded me to enter BBC 1's The One Show art competition, which was judged by accomplished artists and a curator of the National Portrait gallery. To my amazement I won! This has given me the confidence to move forward with my art and am now painting full time. It also led to exhibitions and a card company printing art cards of my paintings.

I paint in acrylics on board and canvas and take inspiration from everyday life and like to insert a little humour into my paintings. Other inspiration could be the lyrics of a song or listening to a play on the radio.

I paint with the hope that I bring people pleasure and a smile to their face.
