Lorraine Izon has worked on and off as a part time teacher and studio potter for over twenty years. She exhibits her ceramics, drawings and prints in a variety of venues and exhibitions throughout each year. She is a selected member of Anglian Potters and a member of Cambridge Open Studios.
Although her use of ceramic materials and decorating techniques may vary, her themes rarely do. She draws inspiration from nature - birds, animals, plants, the sea shore etc.
She prefers her shapes and forms to be simple but strong. She designs her bird forms to be uncomplicated; this allows them to stand up to her compulsion to cover them in textures and patterns.
She works predominantly in stone ware clays, but also makes a range of earthenware pieces. Different clays suit different pieces – she likes to use terracotta when making her tiles, for example, as it has a warm and rustic character all of its own.
