Jo is a visual artist who explores notions of time and reality through fragments of memory. Her aim is to encourage those who see her work to look for the unexpected. They might discover text incorporated within a print, or be left intrigued by her use of blended colour which can leave the viewer wondering what lies beyond what is immediately visible.
Jo is captivated by process - either by the layering of oil paint on canvas or by ink and paper through printmaking. Jo's print work focuses on solarplate printing. The process of working with this particular printing method fascinates Jo and the results are vibrant and intriguing. Jo also works with lithography combined with film and photography. Sometimes working with alternative materials - perspex, aluminum, and wood - adds further intrigue.
Jo is an Artist Facilitator at Kettle's Yard and works with children in a school or private workshop environment. She acts as a mentor to teenagers studying for GCSE and A level art exams and mentors new artists embarking on their own artistic careers.
Alongside her art practice Jo runs corporate and private workshops and individual bespoke oil painting lessons. She has also curated and founded exhibitions for other artists, and she is one of the three co-founders of the Cambridge Original Printmakers Biennale.
Originally trained in Furnishing Textiles and Interior Design Jo pursued an alternative career before returning to painting several years ago. She went on to study at The Cambridge School of Art before relocating to the US. Further studies in advanced printmaking followed at the Curwen Print Study Centre and she is currently studying, until September 2018 for an MA in Printmaking at Anglia Ruskin University.
Jo is in demand for commissioned work - several pieces can be found at Addenbrooke's Hospital, and further afield.
Jo's Cambridge Walkabout prints can be found exclusively at Cambridge Contemporary Art.
