Jazmin Velasco's prints show how history and humour can be brought together, depicting scenes which are inspired by her heritage. Born in Mexico where she studied graphic design and illustration, Jazmin's work is inspired by Leopoldo Mendez who founded the Taller de la Grafica Popular, the celebrated organization which produced the posters and pamphlets that brought the Mexican Revolution to its illiterate masses, and created some of the finest graphic art of the 20th century. Jazmin however, has also embraced her Western roots, producing pieces which can be loosely recognised in Europe – "Brahms Quartet" is just one example.
Ruth Green's work draws on her design background, striving for simple, stylised forms where her compositions come from all manner of sources, from pebbles found on a beach, to 1970s wallpaper.
Intentionally domestic, Ruth aims to complement an interior, and to work with the colours and forms which are common to modern homes. Her play with animals in her prints such as "The Culprit" – a caterpillar which has eaten half a leaf allows everyone to appreciate the work.
Jane Ormes graduated with a degree in Surface Pattern Design but now concentrates on producing whimsical and decorative limited edition prints. Her screenprints reflect her take on the world. She produces playful, colourful images, often involving animals in absurd situations. She likes to think that these creatures all have a secret life that we know nothing about. One print however, "Ode to Daniel Craig's Shorts" brings a smile to every woman!
