Chrissy Norman

Chrissy has been printmaking for over twenty years and produces contemporary etchings using traditional techniques. She usually works with soft or hard ground with aquatint on zinc, etched using a diluted acid. She is particularly known for her colour etchings where she mixes the coloured inks on one plate which is then carefully wiped and printed using an etching press. Nothing is added to them afterwards.

Most of her etchings are relatively small so occasionally she will turn to carborundum and monotype prints when looking for larger, more abstract work. Her inspiration comes from the natural world, looking for patterns that form and often cropping an image to provide negative shapes. She is particularly inspired by light and shadows and changes in the seasons.

Her work has been purchased for the collections of The Palace of Westminster and also Colchester & Ipswich Museums and her carborundum print was included in the Royal Academy Summer Exhibition 2023. Chrissy is a member of the printmaking group Sudbourne Park Printmakers and is a tutor on the etching courses there. She works from her studio near the Suffolk coast.
