Ruth Beloe

After a three year course of study in an Atelier in Florence (1995-8) where she learned traditional drawing, painting and sculpting methods, Ruth has been working from her studio in Ely.

Ruth like to work from life as much as possible when creating more imaginative sculptures. However, whilst she seeks to create realistic portraits and figures, she is learning how and when nature can be manipulated slightly to create a more harmonious sculpture and aid in conveying a meaning. She looks at works of the great masters to learn how they succeeded in this.

Much of Ruth's non-commissioned work is inspired by stories with themes which we can all relate to and tell of human experiences. She is inspired by life around her: friends, dancers, her greyhounds and spaces she knows. While she sees herself predominantly as a sculptor, oil painting is a medium she would like to further explore using chiaroscuro and colour to create atmospheric renderings of interior scenes and daily life.
