Illona Morrice

Illona Morrice was born in Copenhagen in 1954.

Her father was a painter and her mother was a potter. On leaving college she opened up her own gallery in Copenhagen.

Illona moved to the UK in 1979, living and working initially in East Anglia and moved to the north of Scotland in 1986, where she still has her studio.

As well as a sculptor Illona is a deep-sea diver, so spends much of her time in the sea. Illona works mostly in clay, though she sometimes produces sculptures in bronze. All her work is suitable for indoors or outside, and her sculptures often serve a practical purpose; incorporating hollows to catch rainwater which birds can then bathe in. She concentrates on animal and female forms, creating pared down forms with beautiful lines and a serene feel

Her work is featured in numerous private and public collections world-wide.
