Sally Heasley

Born and raised in Nottinghamshire countryside, my early job ambitions included firewoman and fashion designer. I later actually didn't train in either of those, but instead in illustration and have happily been working to commissions from private and corporate clients for the last few years, as well as exhibiting personal work.
I feel almost in a trance like state when drawing from observation, and am exhilarated by creating colourful, decorative images. I enjoy conveying everyday scenes through a variety of media, emphasising colour and shape to make places look more like my imagined world. I particularly enjoy using monoprint as it creates unpredictable textures and line with a delicate quality.
I am excited by the possibilities of telling any story I like through a picture or pictures, and am exploring this further on a masters course in children's book illustration in Cambridge where I currently live.
