Angela Harding

Born in 1960 in Stoke-on-Trent, I studied Fine Art printmaking and painting at Leicester Polytechnic before going on to an MA in Fine Art at Nottingham Trent University. Since qualifying I have combined exhibiting my work with part-time lecturing. I have also completed a number of commissions, including illustrations for Lords International Cricket tickets and for the P&O cruise liner 'Arcadia'.

The recurring inspiration for my work is the flora and fauna of the British countryside. My studio looks out over the Rutland landscape; the view of sheep fields and English farmland is often represented in my work. I use the soft green, greys and blues of this landscape as a backdrop in my paintings and prints. The work is not a literal depiction, but attempts to capture the landscape's distinctive mood and atmosphere. My work has an allegorical aspect that references British painting of the '30s, '40s and '50s, and the work of artists such as Eric Ravillious, David Jones and Winifred Nicholson.
