Rebecca Barnard

Rebecca was born in 1961 near Saffron Walden to arable farming parents.

From 1982, after completing a foundation art course, she took the opportunity to go abroad for what was to be a "gap year", but which turned out to be a life changing six year journey, living and working in Austria whilst travelling extensively around Europe, and later, Australia.

Following her return, she took commissions for both corporate and private clients, eventually returning to art college (the Heatherley School of Fine Art, Chelsea) in 1994 to study mixed media. Since then, she has been developing her work and has for some years been showing successfully both in London and around the country.

Inspiration for her work comes from a wide variety of sources. Whilst her farming background keeps nature as a central pivot, she is as much concerned with the process of creating an image, as with the emotional response evoked by the finished product. Making a picture is a highly stimulating voyage of discovery, which continually inspires her and keeps her work evolving.
