Nicola Cooke

Nicola lives in Dorset where the surrounding countryside and coast are a constant source of inspiration. Nicola has painted for many years, but it was when she was selected for the prestigious 'Open Painting' at the Royal West of England Academy, Bristol in 2005 that she took up painting full time.
The prestigious 'open' exhibitions at the Royal West of England Academy rotate in discipline each year; through painting, photography, sculpture, and so on. In 2010, after a gap of five years the category returned to painting and Nicola was delighted to be once again chosen to exhibit in the exhibition.

Nicola makes extensive drawings of the subject. Texture plays an important part in her paintings, giving them an added dimension with an organic and earthy feel. Upon this, layers of paint are built up, sometimes with veils of translucent washes to create a feeling of light and atmosphere.
