Jo Tunmer

Jo works with oil paint on wood, perspex, canvas and canvas paper. She is currently focused on landscapes in which she often combines distinctive and intriguing natural elements to the foreground of her paintings with less well-formed shape and colour in the background. By leaving the horizon and far distance ill-defined, Jo achieves, in these broad open spaces, a potent and almost tangible sense of solitude.

Up to now Jo has focussed on original works rather than prints. However, she is currently attending a year-long certificate course in printmaking at The Curwen Print Studio, which finishes in June 2012.

Recently Jo has added a range of scraffito originals on perspex to her portfolio. These are exclusively available to Cambridge Contemporary Art.

Having lived in Southern California for several years, Jo has a growing number of US collectors, and private works are also owned in Canada, Australia, Southern India and the UK. Jo works to commission and recent local Cambridge public clients have included Addenbrooke's Hospital and Beechdale Energy.
Originally trained in Furnishing Textiles, Jo pursued an alternative career before returning to painting several years ago. She then went on to study for a while at The Cambridge School of Art.
