Charlotte Readhead

Charlotte Readhead is a painter living and working in both Cambridge and North Cornwall.

She graduated from Kinston upon Thames University with a BA Hons in Fine Art, then completed a PGCE in Art and Design at Homerton College Cambridge and is now a full time artist.

The Cornish coast and landscape are her primary inspiration, where she spends half the year, in a small cove near Padstow. The sea, boats, cliffs and sky offer endless visual resources.

The oil paint is applied directly onto canvas by palette knife, creating a very thick (impasto) surface. The work is representational but not concerned with detail and minutia, but the portrayal of the raw emotional essence of the sea and landscape. This is expressed fluidly and boldly, giving the work movement and texture.
