Once you've worked at a potter's wheel and felt the delight of a pot swirling into existence under your fingers you're likely to get hooked. All my pots are thrown on the wheel, which I like as a piece of ancient technology linking us to our early potting forbears. Although much of my work revolves around the production of vessels for domestic use, I also like to experiment with form, creating tilted or slanted shapes with the vertical shifted off mid-centre. The emphasis is hence on form, decoration being a distraction.
My glazes tend to be muted in colour, with some use of wood ash to create smoky hues, or, as an antidote, plain white. At present I am firing in an electric kiln at 1265 degrees.
