John Wright

John Wright studied at the universities of Nottingham and Loughborough. Throughout his career as a teacher of Art and Design he has also worked in clay. He now specialises full time in his ceramics studio practice.

He finds constant inspiration in the intense colours and textures of the Cornish coast. The sea currents and the ebb and flow of the tide are reflected in his techniques of dipping, re-dipping and layering glazes over the bare clay forms.

Through his rounded forms, John Wright aims to produce a tactile quality which evokes a primitive sense of reassurance. Whilst the textures of his glazes are reminiscent of the weathered surface of stone.

John Wright's work has been exhibited widely accross the UK.
