Jane Barker

Jane Barker gained a degree in Creative Arts at Bretton Hall College, West Yorkshire, in 1982. Whilst at Bretton, Jane began making domestic ware for Jim Robison, who glazed the work himself, and sold it at his gallery in Holmfirth, an arrangement that continues to this day. On returning to Huntingdonshire, she established her studio at 35 High Street, Hemingford Grey, working there full time from 1983 to 1996 under her maiden name of Jane Searle. Early on during her time at Hemingford, Jane was encouraged by Ray and Dorothy Scott to join the East Anglian Potters Association, as it was then known. Since marriage in 1996, Jane has been living and working in Aberdeenshire.

Jane's pots are all thrown in stoneware or porcelain, and fired to 12800C under a reducing atmosphere in a self-built propane fired kiln. Her work mostly uses a variety of slip techniques, including scraffitto, inlay, and paper resist. Recently, Jane has been using lettering in her work.

Jane exhibits regularly with both Anglian Potters and the Scottish Potters Association.

Prices range from: £40 - £198
