Hilke MacIntyre

Hilke Macintyre was born in Germany and grew up near Kiel. She studied architecture at the College of Art & Architecture in Kiel and after finishing her diploma in 1990 worked in offices in Hamburg, Edinburgh and London. In 1996 she moved to Scotland and concentrated on art. She now lives with her husband, also an artist, and their two children near St. Andrews.

'I paint, print linocuts and make ceramic reliefs in a simplified figurative style. Particular influences are primitive art and the art of the early 20th century, so I enjoy the direct visual pleasure of composing shapes, colours and patterns. My pictures are simply of what I see around me.'
